Background and Artistic Influences

Growing up in Poland, where the city of Poznan meets the Nature Reserve Morasko, Zakrzewski spent his formative years exploring the lush forests, fields, and lakes that surrounded his home. This early exposure to the beauty of nature instilled in him a profound admiration for the natural world, a sentiment that would profoundly influence his artistic career.

Cyryl studied at the Faculty of Sculpture and Spatial Activities at Poznan University of Arts, and graduated in 2011. While he was there, he learned to perceive everything as an installation or as artwork. He began to understand that his pieces could also tell a story, not just look beautiful.

Upon graduating, Zakrzewski quickly gained recognition for his innovative approach to sculpture and furniture design. His pieces are not only visually stunning but also highly functional, seamlessly blending into any environment while captivating the viewer’s attention. Cyryl is trained in carpentry, and began his artistic journey as a sculptor. As he and his style progressed, he evolved in to creating furniture pieces out of an interest exploring the connection between nature and civilization, the natural world and society in his work

Creating Living Pieces

One of Zakrzewski’s remarkable strengths lies in his ability to create furniture that feels alive, as if it has grown organically rather than being crafted. Some of his works feature flowing and curving forms that mimic the natural shapes found in the environment around us. While Zakrzewski draws inspiration from nature, he also combines this with his deep knowledge of woodworking and modern manufacturing techniques to create pieces that are both futuristic and organic.

Zakrzewski’s Artistic Process and Goals

Zakrzewski’s work has been showcased in galleries and exhibitions around the world, from Tokyo to Milan. In each location, his work has garnered praise for its innovative approach and captivating aesthetic. When commissioning a piece, he emphasized the importance of starting with the client’s wishes and working on a blank sheet of paper, allowing for a symbiosis between his vision and the client’s desires. However, for Zakrzewski, he always leads with creating work for himself, rather than aiming to please others. Though, he hopes his work will make people more conscious of admiring the beauty of natural shapes in the world. Further he hopes to inspire people to consider civilization’s place within the natural world.

His art is not just about creating beautiful objects; it’s about forging a meaningful connection between people and the natural environment. Through his work, he hopes to inspire others to appreciate and protect nature’s beauty, making them more conscious of the natural shapes and forms that surround us.
