Today’s Jewelry Collection Story comes from Allison of @HollywoodGold – a fun Instagram account I love following, who posts mostly personal collection pieces, and has a unique, eclectic style and a not-so-furry friend named Pete (a camera-loving rescue bearded dragon). Her style is truly her own, which is so enchanting when you come across someone that is totally original and themselves. I love her love for 70s chunky gold and the lunar landing, both of which are heavily prevalent in her collection. Aside from her lizard child, she has two human children and three rescue dogs. I’m so excited to feature her collection, so without further ado, take it away Allison:

“I did not have the financial means to collect jewelry until I got married and even then, the beautiful pieces I had were gifts from my husband. I couldn’t imagine something so indulgent as buying myself jewelry, though I very much enjoyed admiring it and learning about it. As my knowledge about jewelry was growing, I also became increasingly interested in creating a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle for my family. Over time, we made lots of changes in our household and I started buying used clothes more often than new clothes. In that process I came across beautiful vintage pieces at a fraction of the price of new jewelry. I looked closer and fell in love with the design and craftsmanship of jewelry of other eras. The rest, as they say, is history. I have a couple of antique pieces but I am a true vintage girl at heart. I do not hesitate to buy my own jewelry now and seventies gold is my sweet spot.”

“I only have two motifs that I intentionally collect – commemorative lunar landing medals and jewelry, and rings with the initial A. The Van Cleef moon landing pendant is my white whale. I almost don’t want to find one because they are so expensive that I’d have to do something outrageous to pay the bill. The ‘A rings’ are also tricky because I have such little fingers and I will only buy vintage or antique. Especially when it comes to signets (oh how I love a signet), I mostly see pieces intended for men. Inevitably my favorites are size 10 or 11. I have a pretty solid collection now – I like wearing As on all of my fingers (except thumbs) – but I am forever looking. While I have been conscious about developing  those two themes, it’s  funny how other motifs just “happen.” Over time, I have also picked up a number of Guadalupe medals. I also cannot resist a good vintage nudie.”

“I’m very invested in personal expression from all angles, ranging from everyday freedom speech to the creative output of artists to the way we adorn ourselves. The clothing I choose, the jewelry I wear… it’s part of a bigger picture. As much as I love jewelry, what I really can’t get enough of is style. For me, style is having a perspective. It’s how one lives their life.”

“I shop almost exclusively online because my schedule does not permit much more than that. Every now and again I will get myself to Pickwick or A Current Affair in LA to see jewelry in person and I never regret it. That said, the pleasure I get from scrounging around the internet from my couch while watching a Dodgers game is unmatched. Like so many other collectors you’ve featured, I have some solid ebay finds in my jewelry box but at this point, I buy mostly from sellers and other collectors on Instagram. @thefabnab loves rubies and I do too so I watch her instagram like a hawk! For chains, my go-to is @a_golden_gem.”
