Little Horse Vintage in Louisville, Colorado, is a must-visit shop for its wide collection of vintage vinyl.

Like any truly special antiques shop, Little Horse Vintage in Louisville, Colorado, is much more than a storefront. The space alone is overwhelming in the most delightful way possible, at least for collectors.

The shop is more than just row after row of vintage and rare books and a mighty selection of vintage vinyl. Every corner is full of items that make people happy, as owner Mike Price puts it. The store has all kinds of inventory, from nostalgic action figures to vintage political buttons, cameras, cufflinks, and even a Winnie the Pooh telephone tucked into one of the corners.

There’s a wide range of treasures, and Mike isn’t wrong when he describes his inventory as “just about anything that has a sense of coolness to it.” If you’re in Colorado, the Little Horse Vintage stores are worth a stop.

On this particular trip, I wanted to pick Mike’s brain about one item that’s been seeing a serious resurgence over the last two decades: vintage vinyl. To get his advice, watch the latest episode of “Collectors Like You,” where we spotlight fascinating collectors, resellers, dealers (just like you!), and more in the antiques and collectibles world.

One hint: Mistakes matter. If you can find a record with a misprinted label, this item might be worth purchasing. Sometimes, the record’s sleeve makes all the difference when it comes to the record’s value. And like any collectible, it pays to train your sense of taste. Learning how to discern those quality recordings will help with your selection process (see our conversation about Led Zeppelin II).

Little Horse Vintage shop owner Mike Price points out how to spot rare copies of Led Zeppelin II originally mixed by Robert Ludwig. According to Price, some of these first pressings are going for “big money.”

What impressed me about Little Horse was how it goes beyond being just a store. If you’re struggling to move your inventory of vintage furniture, Mike has a great approach that allows him to showcase some of his most exciting vintage audio equipment and build up local music culture. Soon, he’ll be opening up his own private listening club, where members can listen to classic vinyl on superb studio-quality JBL speakers, all while relaxing on classic mid-century furnishings (which are, of course, for sale). Part lounge and part museum, the concept is a dream come true for audiophiles and décor collectors alike.

I love this approach because it sets the mood for the space and is an incredible way to showcase Mike’s impressive collections of music and furniture.

Colorado collectors, this is your notice! Little Horse Vintage is calling your name. Visit the shop’s website to see which location is closest to you. Those who can’t make it in person can also shop online via the Little Horse online store and the Little Horse eBay shop. But even an online shopping session can’t replace the magic of listening to music with your fellow vinyl fiends, so follow Little Horse Vintage on social media to find out when the listening club opens!

I look forward to seeing you there!
