The only known copy of a Greentown McKee two-headed chick dish, produced by the Indiana Tumbler and Goblet Company of Greentown, Ind., sold for $8,100 (including buyer premium), well past its presale estimate at Magnum Auctions’ two-day Fall Harvest of Antiques sale Sept. 9-10. Known as Greentown Glass by enthusiastic collectors, the rare chick dish entered the auction with a presale estimate of $2,500-$4,500.

While Greentown Glass animal covered dishes (rabbit, dolphin, hen, cat) are plentiful, the chocolate glass, double chick on nest dish is the only known one of its kind.
Despite a relatively high production rate during its nine-year existence (1894-1903), Greentown Glass came in unique patterns, clear glass clarity, outstanding colors (Greentown is probably most famous for its opaque brown or chocolate glass) and unique animal covered dishes, all contributing to its collectability. The National Greentown Glass Association, Inc., a non-profit organization, is dedicated to the promotion of Greentown Glass preservation and collecting.
