Will Seippel, CEO of WorthPoint, enjoys watching the items being sold at auctions held by our WorthPoint Industry Partners. We thought it would be a great idea for him to select some of his favorite sold items and explain why those sales stood out to him. Gaining insights from Will is an excellent way to learn about buying and selling trends in our industry. We want to empower you to buy and sell with confidence. Take a look at his thoughts on a few of this week’s sales.

Thomas Kinkade’s prices have definitely come down in recent years, but the sale of this Spring Gate artist proof by Alaska Premier for $488.75 on November 18, 2024, really caught my eye. For a “Master of Light” print, that’s a surprisingly strong price, especially given how his work has softened in the market. With its beautiful framing and the fact that it’s an artist proof, it just goes to show that Kinkade’s signature style still resonates with collectors who appreciate that warm, nostalgic feel.

Speaking of warm feelings, these Thomire: Spectacular and Rare pair of astral lamps, Empire Period sold by Atekio are truly magnificent, and the rarity of this pair really can’t be overstated. Selling for €19,000 ($20,263.50) on March 7, 2023, was a solid price—especially considering that Thomire’s work can sometimes bring over $100K. These lamps, with their stunning winged victories and exquisite craftsmanship, are a perfect example of early 19th-century luxury lighting, and finding a pair in such exceptional condition is a real treat for collectors.

One of my favorite sites to browse is CTBids, where you never know what might pop up—like this 1928 Buescher gold-plated saxophone. While the listing made a bit of a stretch suggesting that Sigurd Rascher actually used it, the price at $1,195 was still a solid deal for both buyers and sellers. They didn’t specifically mention it was from 1928, but the serial number certainly confirms it. This goes to show that you should never pass up an old musical instrument in good condition at an estate sale—you might just find a gem.

Looking ahead, Beloit Auction has an upcoming sale focused on musical instruments

On the sports side, Freeman’s Hindman is hosting a significant auction. They’re not traditionally known for sports, so seeing them tapping into this hot market is exciting. With 476 lots, including a lot of cards, this sale is one to watch. It ends on 12/10, so it’s a great chance to pick up something for yourself or as a gift for someone else. And speaking of cards, my favorite in this sale has to be the 1952 Mantle rookie card. It’s graded a one, but it’s still better than the one in my collection! Their estimate is $15K-$20K, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes for $35K or more. Be sure to check it out on WorthPoint!
