A garage is a great place to store cars, tools, and many other items. Around 50 years ago, someone decided to keep something incredibly rare and valuable in a garage in London: ten signed lithographs from Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí.

Hansons Auctioneers reported that antiques expert Chris Kirkham recently found the prints in the same spot they were left many years ago.

Hansons said the original buyer purchased the prints at a sale at a London gallery in the 1970s. At the time, the gallery was closing down. The buyer acquired the prints, hoping to frame and hang them in his home. However, he put the prints in his garage, and they stayed here for about five decades.

As the buyer is looking to retire and move abroad, he had to clear out his garage. At this point, the buyer contacted Kirkham to conduct a routine home visit, and Kirkham discovered the prints in the garage.

Alongside the Dali prints were five lithographs produced by French painter Théo Tobiasse. On September 30, the buyer will put these and the Dali prints up for auction. The Dali lithographs are expected to sell for up to £500 (approximately $659) apiece, and the Tobiasse prints could sell for up to £300 (approximately $395) each, Hansons indicated.

The Dali and Tobiasse prints represent “an amazing find,” Kirkham said. Thus, they could stir up plenty of demand when they go up for auction. “Dali and Tobiasse are highly regarded, and anything connected to them is sought after,” Kirkham pointed out.
