Fabergé scent bottle sweet smell of success – Antique Collecting

A rare Fabergé scent bottle has sold for £20,000 in the recent white glove sale of the Collection of Jean Louis Chameroy at Woolley & Wallis in Salisbury.

Jean Louis Chameroy (1946-2020) was a collector and antiques dealer and a true connoisseur and expert in Victorian and Georgian jewellery, building up a meticulous collection of antique jewellery throughout his lifetime. Highlights from the sale included: 

A Fabergé aventurine quartz, ruby and diamond scent bottle, late 19th century, hammered at £20,160
A pink topaz brooch, circa 1820, sold for £18,900
A carved ruby, pearl and diamond choker, early 20th century, fetched £21, 420
A ruby, emerald, pearl and diamond locket pendant, circa 1830, at £21,420
A diamond and blue glass ring, ‘bague au firmament’, late 18th century, sold for £12,600
A fine and rare diamond brooch, late 18th century, sold for £16,380

Marielle Whiting, jewellery specialist at Woolley & Wallis, said: “We are thrilled that the remarkable collection of Jean Louis Chameroy was a ‘white glove’ sale, selling 100% of the 200 lots that were for sale. The sale generated a great deal of interest from collectors from around the world with 84 separate buyers, highlighting the significance, quality and condition of this connoisseur’s collection.”
