HAYDEN, IDAHO — Coeur d’Alene Art Auction concluded its 2024 Western & American Art calendar with a blockbuster 241-lot live online auction conducted on November 9. Realizing more than $3.8 million with a 98 percent sell-through rate, the auction was led by the $1,028,500 (with buyer’s premium) result of Charles M. Russell’s (1864 - 1926) “The Rattlesnake.” Completed in 1897, this 22-by-28-inch framed oil on board cowboy scene soared past its $350,000 high estimate, thanks in part to its provenance to the prestigious Robert D. Reed collection (Jacksonville, Fla.), the collection of Mr and Mrs R. Stanton Avery (Pasadena, Calif.) and J. N. Bartfield Galleries (New York City), as well as its exhibition and publication history at Palm Springs Desert Museum (Palm Springs, Calif.). More comprehensive coverage of this auction will be in an upcoming issue.
