This is a painting I bought for no reason other than I like it.

Collectors love to talk about value. We always want to know how much something is worth. Can we make a profit? Do we buy it or skip it if we can’t make money?

But doesn’t every collector have something that is not particularly valuable? Is it just me, or do some collectors buy pieces simply because they like them? I do, and I am here to say that it’s ok to buy something just because you like it.

Take this painting, for example. I found it at a sale for a bargain price. I have no idea who the artist is, but I see something different every time I look at it. It keeps me engaged, and I like it.

Read more of my thoughts about buying things just for fun sometimes.
