ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Brunk Auctions began the 2024 season with two days of auctions, bringing strong results in multiple categories. On January 10, Brunk auctioned Property From a Historic South Carolina Plantation, and on January 11, the auction house conducted its sale of items from the collection of David Bahlman and Howard Klosterman. Leading the 123-lot January 10 sale was a landscape oil painting by South Carolina artist Alfred Heber Hutty. Titled “The Red Bud,” the painting of a cypress swamp was signed “Alfred Hutty” and “22” (pictured). It earned $86,100 with buyer’s premium against an estimate of $40/60,000. At the top of the January 11 sale’s 305 lots was a Tiffany Studios Dragonfly table lamp with a three-socket bronze Indian base. This leaded glass lamp found a buyer for $67,650 ($30/50,000) with buyer’s premium. A complete review of both auctions will be in a forthcoming issue.
